WHAT'S ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?![]() Posted by Admin on Nov 14, 2009 11:03 (Nov 14, 2009 11:03) |
The damn hype got so hysterical, that every special school kid and their mom went to buy this game. My favorite scenes are those of some chicks standing in front of some mall and going "OMG I am so totally gonna play this with my friends on my XBOX". Oh dear God, what have we done to you ... But, I am digressing.
Anyway, back to our Review. I am gonna split this into 3 sections, so here we go:
The Good
Well, being as CoD 4 is one of the best FPS games in the history of gaming, and Modern Warfare 2 is a direct successor to it (don't get me started on CoD 5, please, for the love of God), expectations were quite high. And it is fair to say that MW2 has done quite a good job to preserve the qualities of good Action gaming.
The overall campaign atmosphere is good - there is action basically from the very first scene to the last. It's like a big ride on an adrenaline driven roller coaster.
The levels are very nicely designed, ranging from the slums of Rio to the mountains of Afghanistan. There is a huge weapons arsenal available to the player, which of course look great.
The story continues five years after the ending of CoD 4, whith Makarov as the new bad ass, following Zakhaev, and on our side we once again play with different characters. We get to see some familiar faces, including MacTavish.
I don't want to spoil too much, suffice it to say, there are some interesting turns in the story, and there also are memorable moments, just like in CoD 4, some of which might shock you. There is a diabolical, although not so logical, plan in place which eventually leads to an all out war, where you will even try to defend the US capital - in this regard, the graphical presentation of war in Washington is ultra realistic, giving the player an uneasy feeling of helplessness.
So, in general, the good FPS action feeling is there, and all those who loved the first Modern Warfare, will also enjoy the albeit very short campaign of MW2.
